Alan R Meadley was born in Pretoria and died in 1983 in Johannesburg. His last address was The Donga, Maple Drive, Sandton. He trained at the Architectural Association (AA) in London and become a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) (FRIBA) [a title no longer awarded]. One of his last major commissions was the Traduna Building in Jorissen Street in Johannesburg. During the Second World War he had a distinguished career as a captain engineer (Sapper) with the South African Army and was decorated by the Americans for valour with the Bronze Star.
At some point he must have formed a partnership with EWN MALLOWS styled as MALLOWS and MEADLEY. In 1959 he is recorded as of address 74 Norwich Union Building, Commissioner Street, Johannesburg, and in 1969 of address 201 Europa House, 32 Plein Street, Johannesburg.
He never married.
