DipArch 1931 (Cape Town)
Was born in Gloucestershire in England. It is not certain when he came to South Africa. In November 1924 he entered the office of FM GLENNIE where he served three years of articles and in 1931 he passed the RIBA final examination at the University of Cape Town. After a difficult year or so, he joined the office of Thain FORSYTH in Cape Town in September 1933 where he remained until September 1935, leaving to join HJ BROWNLEE in that year. In 1938 he worked for REID, DELBRIDGE & FALLON, prior to entering into partnership with Brownlee in 1939 (cf BROWNLEE & DARROLL). The partnership appears to have lasted until about 1941. By 1954 he was working for BLACK & FAGG with whom he remained until he retired, resigning from the Institute of South African Architects in 1974.
