LATIMER, Richard Maxwell (Dick)

Richard Maxwell LATIMER was born on 25 August 1946 and attended King Edward VII High School in Johannesburg. Qualified at the University of the Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1969. Began his professional career in Johannesburg in 1970 with FABEL & SCHWELLNUS ARCHITECTS dealing with design, documentation and contract management. In 1973 joined ASSOCIATED ARCHITECTS FOR THE JOHANNESBURG CIVIC CENTRE and assisted with drawing production and site administration of the Civic Centre building in Braamfontein. In 1977 joined MONTE BRYER & RODD ARCHITECTS, in 1980 joined CRAWFORD ARCHITECTS and in 1981 joined OSMOND LANGE ARCHITECTS & PLANNERS at their East London practice.

Work in East London included medium-rise office blocks, university and technikon campus development, state, commercial and industrial work including extensive development for DaimlerChrysler of South Africa (Pty) Ltd and the East London Industrial Development Zone. Colour consulting and urban sculpture were additional services rendered. Retired as a director of OSMOND LANGE in 2009.

2012, He now spends most of his time as an artist doing painting, drawings, sculpture and photography. He has also produced a picture-driven children's book. To see his artwork visit his website.
