Obituary issued by the Round Table - 1975

It was with profound shock that Tablers learnt of the death in a motor car accident, of Adam Reyneke on Monday 11th November, 1975.

Adam's personality and dedication endeared him to everyone he met and words cannot express the loss that his many friends have suffered.

He had a meteoric Table career, being inducted into Natalia Table in November 1970, serving as Secretary in 1971, Vice-Chairman in 1972 and Chairman in 1973 and Editor of 'On the Coast', Area P.R.O. and Inkundla Whip in 1974. He also convened the Annual Family Fair, a joint project with Port of Natal Table, served on the 1974 ARTSA committee and in 1972 was Chairman of Glenridge Nursery School. In between these activities Adam found time to run a thriving architectural practice. At the time of his death he was serving on National Council as Regalia Convenor.

The pinnacle of his Table career must surely have been during his year as Table Chairman, when Natalia brought ballerina Dame Margot Fonteyn and her entourage to South Africa and in so doing raised R35 000 for the Daily News LEARN Fund (Let Every African Read Now). His interest in the Fund was such that the Fund Committee has already decided to name the first ten-classroom school built by the fund after Adam and he intended joining the Committee next year.

Adam's deeds are his most fitting memorial and we will not easily forget him. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to his wife Jemima and his family.
