| | VAN ROUENDAL, Laurentius (Larry)Born:
Architect |
BArch (Pret) 1966.
''I [Pieter J MATHEWS] was a friend of the son of Laurentius, commonly known as Larry van Rouendal, the well-known architect in town [Lichtenburg] who designed a monument to the Afrikaans language. I listened, actually eavesdropped, to the discussions and its conceptualisation. I watched wide-eyed as the monument began to take shape its design was realised,'' recalls Pieter.

Notes:
1. My [Basil BRINK's] grandfather Willem Frederik Schoon stayed in Lichtenburg and regularly played golf on its golf course. In the early 1960s he died tragically when he was struck by lightning while sheltering under a tree on the golf course. The other players sustained minor injuries.
2. Van Rouendal was a member of the Afrikaner Broederbond: ''Van Rouendal L, 35, Wouterweg 7 Retiefpark Lichtenburg, Argitek, 1977, Pretoria'' (A124, Wilkins & Strydom. 1978. The Super-Afrikaners. Johannesburg. Jonathan Ball Publishers).
