Born in Johannesburg. Graduated from University of the Witwatersrand (1974), and began to practice and teach. Master of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley (1977); since 1978 has lived and practices in San Francisco and teaches at the University of California.

Stanley SAITOWITZ was the Sophia Gray Laureate in 2000.
