Probably born in South Africa, he was educated at Forest High School in Johannesburg. He seems to have been among the early students to qualify in Architecture, gaining a diploma, at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1935. He registered with the Institute of South African Architects in 1927 and joined the Johannesburg municipality in 1933. He volunteered during the Second World War and returned to his work in the Municipality after the war, becoming the head of the Building Survey Branch in January 1953 and dying in Johannesburg three years later.
