He studied architecture at the University of Cape Town from 1933 until 1937, graduating with a diploma in Architecture. He was elected an Associate member of the RIBA in 1938 and was working in the offices of Brian MANSERGH in 1938. By 1939/1940 he was working in the Municipal Housing Offices, Newlands, Cape Town. By 1959 he had joined John T JENKINS in a partnership (cf WILLIS & JENKINS). ARIBA 1938; ISAA 1938.
