TILL, JH and AE

Established: 1891
Ended: 1918

Architect

A partnership between JH TILL and AE TILL with offices in Kroonstad and Johannesburg from about 1891 until about 1918 when both worked in the Transvaal. They came fourth in the competition for Transvaal the University College in 1906 (SAAE&S Jnl Aug 1906:156-8) and entered the competition for the Pretoria Post Office in 1908. The partnership was responsible for the design and supervision of about 25 churches for a number of denominations before 1908. They were also responsible for the design of Kroonstad Town Hall (c1905) which they won in competition, which Greig describes as 'exceedingly ugly Municipal Classic' (Greig 1971:165) as well as for the designs of nearly all the churches in Kroonstad.
