Was appointed by the Crown Agents for the Colonies to the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, Pretoria, as a surveyor's assistant. He arrived in the country in November 1902. He was a foundation member of the Transvaal Society of Quantity Surveyors and Vice-President of the Institute of Quantity Surveyors. He served during the First World War as a Captain and Adjutant of the Pretoria Regiment and was awarded the Military Cross. After the war he was seconded to act as engineer in charge of the construction of the Umfolosi Sugar Mills in Natal. He died suddenly in the Transvaal of pneumonia. ISAA 1927.
