George Storrar was born in Fife, Scotland in 1883 and trained as a civil engineer. He became the town engineer of Pretoria and was responsible for building the Rietvlei Dam. George Storrar Drive in Groenkloof was named after him. Some of his descendants, now in their 70s, still live in Pretoria. He died in 1958.
Although trained as an engineer he registered with the Institute of South African Architects in 1928.
