Also spelt BAULTON. Sometimes referred to as RUSSELL-BOULTON, John.
Was born in Kimberley and educated at Kimberley High School from 1917 to 1923. He came to Johannesburg (n.d.) and trained in the office of Saul MARGO from 1926 to 1930. He entered into partnership with JG CARMICHAEL (cf. BOULTON & CARMICHAEL) in 1930 and practised in Johannesburg until the partnership was dissolved in May 1932. From this date he practised on his own account under his own name. He enlisted with the Witwatersrand Rifles on the outbreak of the Second World War. His pre-war career as an architect saw him responsible for a number of residential blocks in Johannesburg among which were Geraldine Court (n.d.); Rowallan Court (n.d.); Dundonald Mansions (n.d.); Vannin Court (n.d.) and Belmont Court (n.d.). He was responsible for a number of as yet unidentified residences in various suburbs in Johannesburg during the same period. After the war he continued to practise on his own account in Johannesburg from April 1945 until December 1952 when he moved to Estcourt in Natal and opened his practice there. His address in 1959 was given as P.O. Box 41, Estcourt, Natal. He was still practising there in 1987. His name is also found spelt with a hyphen.
