Eldest son of Herman SCHUTTE. Was a pupil of THIBAULT and ANREITH in their short time as pioneering teaching at the Technical Institute founded by the Lodge de Goede Hoop in 1815. Hermanus Frederick registered as a land-surveyor in 1813 and worked as such until 1824 in the Swellendam district. His was probably the signature on the plans for alterations to the Pastorie at Swellendam submitted 31 January 1816.
