Born in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, England, Samson was educated and trained in England and came to South Africa in 1893. He was listed working as an architect in Cape Town during the years 1897 until 1909. He married in 1898. His work was chiefly domestic, consisting mainly of private houses and blocks of 'dwelling houses for the working classes'. From 1898/1899 until 1909 he was practising as SAMSON & CO. Johnson (1987:390) notes that he submitted forty-seven domestic plans, mostly villas, to Sea Point Municipality between 1898 and 1907. His address in 1908 was Casafelice, Hout Bay.
