Blaker studied Architecture at the University of the Witwatersrand and graduated in March 1936 with a Diploma in Architecture. Blaker registered with the Institute of South African Architects in 1936, his address at the time being c/o EMLEY & WILLIAMSON, Johannesburg. He left for Uganda in 1940, a Lieutenant in the South African Engineers' Corps. After the war he worked in Kenya where he is recorded as an absent practicing member of the Transvaal Institute of address Nairobi. He moved to Australia in 1961.
