Architect


Black trained as a quantity surveyor (although it is not known where) and came to South Africa in 1896. After a brief time at the Cape he went to Johannesburg and joined MCA MEISCHKE as business manager in connection with the erection of the Union Buildings and the Johannesburg Town Hall. He was resident in Pretoria during the building of the former. He was frequently called in to arbitrate on building disputes and was president of the Association of Transvaal Architects from 1907 to 1908.
