POOLE, Maurice Melville Forbes

Was probably born in Natal. He was articled to PAYNE & PAYNE in Durban from August 1926 to July 1929, he also attended the School of Art in Durban from 1927 until 1929 where he studied art and architecture (this was at the Natal Technical College). He studied privately from 1930 to 1933 and entered Natal University College in 1934, and sat the RIBA examination in 1935. He was elected an Associate member of the RIBA in 1936 and entered the office of CHICK & BARTHOLOMEW the same year, becoming a partner in the firm in about 1939 (cf CHICK, BARTHOLOMEW & POOLE). Poole enlisted for active service during the Second World War, returning to practice in Durban after the war.

In 1959 and 1969 he is recorded as still principal of this partnership of address 100 Club Arcade, Smith Street, Durban in 1959, and 4th Floor, 331 Smith Street, Durban in 1969..
