Bjornhaug was born in Norway and was educated at Trondheim Cathedral School and the Norwegian Technical High School. He was in private practice in Norway for a year and a half before leaving for South Africa in about 1928. He worked in Durban for five years in the office of AAR McKINLAY and from 1933 for PR COOKE in Johannesburg, resident architect on Duchess Mansions. He registered with the Institute of South African Architects in 1935 and resigned from the ISAA in 1974. In 1959 his address was 83, Greenside Road, Greenside, Johannesburg. By 1969 he is recorded as a salaried member of the Transvaal Institute in the employ of the DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS of address Supreme Court Buildings, Johannesburg.
