PHILLIPSEN, Jørgen ChristianBorn: 1871
An architect? He worked in Durban around 1903-5, his name appearing on a few house plans.
This is most probably Jørgen Christian Phillipsen, a Danish citizen born in 1871 and who died in Denmark in 1954. He and his wife Elisabeth Rødseth lived for a while in South Africa where they had two children both born in 1905.
The photograph on the right is from a glass negative which was found with some old photographic equipment when clearing out the house of one of his sons. Claus Philipson (the second 'l' was dropped from the name at some point) who has sent us this information does not know which house it is but sees a resemblance in the man sitting on the left of the verandah to his father and himself.
(Information supplied by Claus Philipson, great-great grandson of JC Phillipsen)
