Born in America, O'Brien lived in San Francisco and apparently He followed his profession in both San Francisco and New York and claimed to have worked on some of the 'largest buildings in the world' (SAA&B May 1905:158). He was listed practising in Claremont, Cape Town, as O'Brien Bros between 1904 and 1906. He returned to America at some stage, where he died.
