GL MURRAY was born in Newcastle, Northumbria. He was educated at St James College, Morpeth, UK, son of Alexander Murray and Mary Murray (nee Brown). He came to Somerset-Strand in 1914 with his wife Mary (nee Brewis) and his son Charles and daughter Mary. He practised on his own account from Cape Buildings, Strand, Beach Front, and lived at De Beers Rd, Strand. He died at the Strand in his home in Hill Road which he had built. Among his projects were the Somerset West Town Hall. His consulting architects were WALGATE & ELSWORTH, Cape Town.
