Menu Home Upfront Now Up Books Towns Structures People Firms Lexicon LYNE, Daniel Roy Born: 1889 07 Died: 1946 01 16 Architect Lyne was articled in England to Prothero & Philpot, FRIBA, Cheltenham in 1905. He studied at the Architectural Association and Royal Academy Schools (n.d.) where he was awarded the Silver Medal for Architectural design. In 1907 he was employed by Waller & Sam in Gloucester, working as an assistant in this office until 1911 when he left to work in H Ashmead's office as an assistant, and remained with Ashmead until 1915 when he enlisted and served in northern France. He was elected an Associate member of the RIBA in 1919. Lyne left England in 1922, going to Johannesburg where he joined Allen WILSON's office. According to a note in the RIBA biographical files, information supplied by his sister, Mary Lyne, Lyne specialised in hospital design. He joined AA in 1912 but it is not known if he enrolled in Day School or Evening School or indeed for how long. (Edward Bottoms, Archivist, Architectural Association) ARIBA 1919; ISAA 1927.
