In 1928 Begg lived in Brakpan. By 1935/1936 he was with the City Engineer's Department, Port Elizabeth, and was appointed city engineer of Port Elizabeth on the retirement of DP Howells. Begg retired in January 1947. In 1959 he is recorded as retired of address Cape Road, Port Elizabeth. By 1967 he was living in Umkomaas, Natal.
