A very apt Afrikaans descriptive name - literally a 'piggy-back hearth' - for a hearth and chimney-stack projecting from the end of a cottage. The word abba is the name given to the custom of carrying a baby on the mother's back, so resembling the projecting hearth at the kitchen end of a cottage. See also komyntjie.
