Cunningham Primary School
South End, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape

Style:Tectonic ZA Wilhelmiens
Status:Demolished 1970s

The school was demolished in the early 1970s together with 99% of buildings in South End. An action of the apartheid government of the time to enforce racial segregation. Much like District 6 in Cape Town, South End had developed into a charming suburb where people of all races lived happily side by side. While much of the area has now been redeveloped it remains a rather bleak soulless part of the city.
