The Station sheds were erected in 1951 on the land newly available from the Foreshore Reclamation project. They operated as a venue for the 1951 Van Riebeeck Tercentenary where train coaches served as restaurants to festival goers (SESA (3) 1971:521). Building operations began directly after the Festival to create an End Screen Building housing offices for the station operations.
