Formed part of the Cape Town Van Riebeeck Festival held in the sheds on the foreshore constructed for the event, later repurposed as the Culemborg Railway Goods Station, the largest exhibition ever held in South Africa up until that time, it in turn being for the gold-industry and the biggest exhibit on the show, containing a large-scale working model of a gold mine.
