Golden Acre : Goue Akker
33°55'21.89" S 18°25'23.53" E Alt: 20m
The excavations for the Golden Acre uncovered ruins of the Wagenaar water tank (constructed in 1663), which are now on display behind glass in the underground shopping centre. The location of the building marks the original shoreline, before land was reclaimed from the sea in the 1930s. It is situated on the site where the original railway station was built. This building is built over a large shopping centre and train station. The Golden Acre is linked by a network of underground shopping concourses to the Cape Town railway station, Holiday Inn Cape Town and Picbell Parkade. (Emporis)
