Abstract: Eaton as progenitor of Pretoria Regionalism - a place-specific architecture - spent his formative years within an identifiable context, namely Pretoria, its peoples and its landscape. His relationship with his mentor, Gordon Leith, his circle of artist friends - Alexis Preller in particular - nature, and his investigation of traditional rural settlements and traditional and crafted construction materials all contribute to our understanding of his formative influences. The manifested idiosyncrasies of personality - his inscape are also revealing.
