Was probably born in South Africa and joined the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT in Pretoria in 1918 where he is likely to have received his training as an architect. In 1921 he resigned from the Department to work as assistant to P EAGLE from 1 May 1921 until 13 August 1922, rejoining the Department on 14 August 1922. Here he remained until 1930 when he left to enter into partnership with H SIEMERINK and HAH WALKER in East London (cf SIEMERINK, WALKER & LANE). In 1935 Lane left the firm setting up on his own in East London and admitting WP OSMOND into partnership on 1 September 1936 (cf LANE & OSMOND). Lane retired in 1954. By 1959 he seems to be active again as a practitioner as he is recorded as a member of the Cape Institute, being a partner in the practice styled VOS, LANE and VINCENT. He resigned from the Institute of South African Architects in 1961.
