VAN CITTERT, Herman

Born in Haarlem, the Netherlands. Arrived in Pretoria with his two brothers Jan and Hendrik and their families in 1888. In 1893 the brothers, of whom Hendrik (1862-1899) was a brick-layer, were awarded the contract to build the facilities at Warmbaths (now Bela-Bela). Jan and Herman set up a construction company after the Anglo-Boer (South African War). They built many houses in the Pretoria suburbs of Pretoria-West, Sunnyside and Arcadia.
