Born in Panevyzys, Lithuania, son of Movsa Alexander Cecil Shapiro. Emigrated to South Africa in 1939. Received high school education at Milton School for Boys. Studied architecture at the University of Cape Town School of Architecture where he served as Committee Member of the Architectural Student Society. He was awarded the 5th year class medal for studio work. In 1956 12 09 he married Ruth Kay Cohen by whom he had a son and daughter. He set up partnership with Joseph (Jos) DAVIDOVITZ styled DAVIDOVITZ and SHAPIRO.
