John Alcock Weston Perry was born on 22 January 1914 in Sea Point, the son of Thomas William Weston PERRY, Divisional Provincial Engineer. He qualified at University of Cape Town School of Architecture in 1942 and, amongst his designs were several houses in Pinelands Garden City, including his own at 14 New Way. Most of his professional life was as Assistant Architect in the Cape Provincial Administration with particular responsibility for schools. John was also well known in the Cape as a bird artist having illustrated a number of books, The Birds Around Us, the Sunbirds of Southern Africa and also provided black and white illustrations for Roberts Birds of South Africa.
