IRVING, Hugh Mackintosh

Obtained BSc(Civil Engineering) in 1930. Began his professional career with REINFORCING STEEL COMPANY where he worked from 1931 03 01 - 1934 07 31. Thereafter he worked for the Pretoria Municipality (1931 08 01 - 1935 02 28), being awarded the Bayliss Prize by the British Institution of Civil Engineers. In 1935 he took up a lectureship at Natal University College until the end of 1936, whereafter he became assistant engineer in the Durban City Engineer's Department. In April of 1945 he was appointed resident engineer on the Durban water supply project on the Umgeni River. He served in several capacities to the professional engineers bodies. He maried Florence Mary Taylor on 1936 07 04 by whom he had a son and daughter. His second marriage was to Mrs Eileen Deacon.
