VAN ZANTEN, Jacobus Henri

Architect


ASWAIA. Born in Hilversum, Delft, Netherlands, son of Dirk Anthony van Zanten. Received a Diploma in Architecture from Weimar, Germany. He arrived in South Africa in May 1936. In World War II he served in the Netherlands Indian Army in the Far East, Java and Sumatra as an Officer in the Royal Engineers. He was taken Prisoner of War by the Japanese in Thailand. After the War He served as in-house architect for the Van der Bijl Park Estate Company. He went to South West Africa (now Namibia) in March 1953. He married Irma Ethne Stretch, daughter of the Honourable Charles Lennox St Leger Stretch on 1946 07 07.
