Was born in Barnoldswick, Yorkshire, England. Nothing has yet been established about his training, but he was resident and practising in Pietermaritzburg when he registered with the Institute of South African Architects in 1928. From 1926 until 1935 he worked in partnership with LANGTON & BARBOURE of Durban (cf LANGTON, BARBOURE & ASKHAM), in charge of the Pietermaritzburg office, and was responsible for the design of the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Pietermaritzburg. Askham's style was eclectic but in the modern idiom. After 1935 he practised on his own account in Pietermaritzburg. When he died he was living in Kloof near Durban.
