It is uncertain whether Joan Rollo Drury was born in South Africa. She trained at London University at the Bartlett School of Architecture from October 1925 under Professor AE Richardson. From August 1929 she spent two years in the offices of CH Biddulph and Pinchard, FRIBA, (in London?), visiting South Africa (1927) and the United States of America (1928) during student vacations. In 1931 she was elected an Associate member of the RIBA and came to South Africa where she settled. By 1932/33 she was working in Grahamstown but worked for AJ MARSHALL in Johannesburg from September 1933 until September 1935. In 1940 she lived at 108 Albert St, Waterkloof in Pretoria and retired from the Institute pf South African Architects in 1973. She was married to the architect E NORTHOVER.
