Born in Johannesburg. He was educated at St John's College. He studied architecture at the University of the Witwatersrand School of Architecture.During WW2 he served as a Lieutenant with the SA Signals Corps. On 1946 12 14 he married Natalie Mildred Brain by whom he had two sons and two daughters. In 1959 his business address was 1010, Management House, cor. Melle & Stiemens Streets, Braamfontein, Johannesburg and in 1965 his physical address was Fairfields, Cadogan Road, Bryanston.
