NEUTRA was born in Leopoldstadt, on April 8, 1892 into a wealthy Jewish family. His Jewish-Hungarian father Samuel Neutra was a proprietor of a metal foundry, his mother was Elizabeth "Betty" Glaser. He immigrated to the United States.
Harry LE ROITH was particularly interested in the work of Richard NEUTRA since LE ROITH considered that NEUTRA shared his interest in site and landscape. In 1960 Richard NEUTRA visited South Africa at the invitation of LE ROITH and the Institute of South African Architects.
Clive CHIPKIN relates that Jack CLINTON had worked at a formative stage as part of STAUCH's practice in Pretoria and NEUTRA's office in California.
