KOOL, Wouter

Kool is recorded as being member of the 5th Platoon of the Veld Service Unit of the Hollander Corps and recorded in the Special issue of the Staats Coerant of 18 November 1899 as being missing in action after the Battle of Elandslaagte, he was actually captured on 21 October 1899 at Elandslaagte (1899 10 21) and sent as prisoner-of-war to St Helena. In 1924 he is recorded in being in Morgenzon, district Standerton.

Rex (1974: 375) records him as being in the architectural service of the ZAR PWD and he appears in an 1897 group photograph. His occupation is recorded as a carpenter (Ploeger, J & de Kock, G de V. 1989. Nederlandse emigrasie na Suid-Afrika 1800-1900. Port Elizabeth: University of Port Elizabeth. p, 120).
