WOODS, Bertram MeredithBorn: 1910
It is not certain where Woods was born. He worked for a year from December 1928 until February 1929 in the office of ROBERTSON & Whiteside, Architects, in Bulawayo, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) (Robertson being JD Robertson who had worked in Baker's office in about 1910 before moving in 1911 to Rhodesia (Zimbabwe)). In March 1929 Woods enrolled for the five year full-time course in Architecture at the University of Cape Town. He spent six months (1929-1930) in the office of J PERRY to gain office experience and spent a further six months in 1932 in the office of Garth COX in Cape Town. In 1934 he spent one term at the Bartlett School in London and returned to South Africa in 1935, the year in which he was elected an Associate member of the RIBA. His address then was c/o OWEN EATON & MERRIFIELD, Port Elizabeth. Woods's name does not appear in the Institute of South African Architect’s Year Books.
