RIDGWAY, Rowland AlfredBorn: 1864 12 15
The son of Rowland RIDGWAY, this Ridgway is not recorded by Hillebrand (1975) but he was the eldest of Rowland Ridgway's nine children. According to records, Rowland Alfred Ridgway worked as a draughtsman in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, employed by the Natal Government from January 1886 and with the PWD from June 1896: 'a first class and thoroughly qualified draughtsman - he really is an exceptionally high class man; it would be a great pity to lose the opportunity of securing such a competent man' (NAD PWD 2614/98.) They did not lose him: he was appointed assistant draughtsman in 1901 and seems to have remained with the PWD for some time since he drew a subsistence allowance while in the Ladysmith office in 1909. Nothing more is known about him.
